Jon Stewart is genius; hysterical

Several times throughout this segment I was laughing out loud! I love him so... he's amazing.

Scalia on Bush v. Gore: "Get over it."

While it's true that Gore initially sued, and he requested a recount for only some (and not all) of the counties in Florida, there's no reason we should "get over" the decision the Supreme Court made in Bush v. Gore, as Scalia suggests.

Notice how he refers to the Supreme Court as "My Court." Dude, the Supreme Court is OUR court. It doesn't belong to the justices. So there.

Wired has a collection of photos from the Hubble Telescope. I thought this was one was purty.

There Will Be Blood

This movie is disturbing; amazing; dark; troubling. It's set in turn-of-the-20th-century Southern California (although some other descriptions place the story happening in Texas).

The film has the same visual "palette" as Chinatown (even though much different story-telling style). It's long but I can't imagine how they could have cut down the film: it had to be sprawling and large in order to be able to take it in.

The opening sequence was, dare I say it, breathtaking. It was not the landscape porn that was The New World, but immediately set a tone that remained constant for the entire film. It was simple and perfect, which is I guess why in retrospect I am so impressed: each scene was exactly what it should have been so that the film could get under your skin.

I thought the score was composed by Michael Giacchino until I learned that it was done by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead!

Regulation by the Under-regulated

One of my law school classes this semester (and the class for which I have my first final) deals (in part) with federal regulation agencies (like the EPA, FDA, etc.) and how they fit into our legal system.

It's especially interesting to study this these days, when (as Jon Stewart points out in the second video clip below) "regulatory agencies are managed by the very people they are meant to regulate."
