Several times throughout this segment I was laughing out loud! I love him so... he's amazing.

Scalia on Bush v. Gore: "Get over it."
While it's true that Gore initially sued, and he requested a recount for only some (and not all) of the counties in Florida, there's no reason we should "get over" the decision the Supreme Court made in Bush v. Gore, as Scalia suggests.
Notice how he refers to the Supreme Court as "My Court." Dude, the Supreme Court is OUR court. It doesn't belong to the justices. So there.
Check out Jeffrey Toobin's take (these are short and he discusses Sandra Day O'Connor) here.

There Will Be Blood
This movie is disturbing; amazing; dark; troubling. It's set in turn-of-the-20th-century Southern California (although some other descriptions place the story happening in Texas).
The film has the same visual "palette" as Chinatown (even though much different story-telling style). It's long but I can't imagine how they could have cut down the film: it had to be sprawling and large in order to be able to take it in.
The opening sequence was, dare I say it, breathtaking. It was not the landscape porn that was The New World, but immediately set a tone that remained constant for the entire film. It was simple and perfect, which is I guess why in retrospect I am so impressed: each scene was exactly what it should have been so that the film could get under your skin.
I thought the score was composed by Michael Giacchino until I learned that it was done by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead!

Regulation by the Under-regulated
One of my law school classes this semester (and the class for which I have my first final) deals (in part) with federal regulation agencies (like the EPA, FDA, etc.) and how they fit into our legal system.
It's especially interesting to study this these days, when (as Jon Stewart points out in the second video clip below) "regulatory agencies are managed by the very people they are meant to regulate."
Part One:
"...if the plane blows up on its own, it's just the market self-regulating."
Part Two:
"They're trying to kill us."

Hot hot hot
According to the weatherman, it's supposed to get up to 93 degrees over the weekend! Bitches. I was thinking the mid to high-80s was bad. I guess that's why there's A/C.
There are many great things about Arizona (in fact, I have been working on a blog post to that effect), but whenever people say it's great because of the weather I have to disagree. I guess that's what happens when you grow up in a place where it's mostly 70 degrees, sunny, with an ocean breeze all year long!

Project Runway... on Lifetime?
Yup, the station most commonly associated with Valerie Bertinelli and spousal abuse has bought several new seasons of Tim Gunn et. al.
NBC seems none too happy about the move, issuing the following statement:
NBC Universal has continuing legal rights related to 'Project Runway,' including a right of first refusal to future cycles of the series, which the Weinstein Co. unfortunately has refused to honor. NBC Universal regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program, including the right to decide whether it is in the best interest of the company to continue to air the show under the proposed financial terms.

Oyez, Oyez, Oyez
If you REALLY want to geek out, here's a site where you can listen to arguments made before the Supreme Court!
Here's one with my ConLaw Professor, Paul Bender (he's argued many before the Supreme Court...). Here him go toe-to-toe with Justice Scalia!
Here's Rumsfeld v. Padilla.
Here's Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, which is a case Perkins Coie took on a pro bono basis.
Here's Bush v. Gore.
And here's Texas v. Johnson, argued by William Kunstler, a controversial but amazing attorney. In this case he successfully defended his client's right to burn the American flag.

Pink Martini!
A friend (let's call her Cellisimo) and I are going to see Pink Martini perform in Scottsdale next month, right after the end of our first year of law school! What a way to celebrate... I can't wait!

Amon Tobin on the interwebs
After several years of waiting... Tobin's new site is up and running! There is audio, video, info, etc. All very sleek and styley.
He has a section on the site where he posts fan's videos that use his tracks, like this one:
He's playing in SF on 4/12... lucky bay area people.
