I saw Semi-Pro tonight... it was pretty funny - funnier than Anchorman and Talledega Nights! It wasn't as good as Old School, but what could be, really?
The 70s funk soundtrack was excellent, though!

St. Paddy's Day
Sadly I'm not drinking... but remembering one St. Paddy's where we went to The Irish Bank in San Fran. It was packed that night but goddamn do I love that place.

Spring Break in the VTA
I've been in Ventura ("VTA") this week... mostly been studying (read: catching up on my reading) but I was able to have some fun while I've been here.
On Wednesday night I went to a lovely dinner at The Gardens on Glendon in Westwood before heading to see Angelique Kidjo perform at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. She was great and had everybody out of their seats... she is amazing! BTW, Royce Hall was beautiful. I really have not spent much time at all on the UCLA campus and really found it to be gorgeous!
I also loved the opening band, Dengue Fever. They are an L.A. band and the singer is originally from Cambodia and occasionally sings in her native language (Khmer? Cambodian?). I really liked them... they are like a 60s pop band with hints of Jane's Addiction and Death in Vegas... very odd but oddly familiar at the same time.
I really liked this song (more impressive live methinks):

A visit from Mullin!
This weekend my sweet friend Mullin came down from Seattle to bask in the sun. We had a great time chillaxing and catching up!
Friday night we met up with some of my law school friends at an odd little place called Olive Branch. It's a Lebanese restaurant, but on Friday nights it turns into a salsa club. It was packed and quite a scene. The drinks were unfortunate but the live band was good and I'm glad Mullin could meet my crazy friends who are getting me through the hell that can be law school.
Saturday we slept in, then went to breakfast at this lovely place in Phoenix called La Grande Orange Grocery. This is a little market and eatery that reminded me of Market Hall in Oakland.
La Grande Orange serves yummy breakfast and lunch fare. I had a turkey cobb salad and Mullin had "The Commuter," an egg and smoked salmon sandwich on an english muffin. We both ordered the Grapefruit Sunrise from the juice bar - which was fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice with a touch of pomegranate. Delish!
We then drove north to Sedona - it was lovely there and we stopped and took some pictures of the gorgeous red rocks:
We couldn't stay that long in Sedona, since we needed to be back to meet up with a friend of Mullin's for dinner at Cibo that night.
Cibo is a great, happening little restaurant contained in an Arts & Crafts-style bungalow. Without a reservation, the wait was about an hour, which was OK since we could order a bottle of wine and chill in the lovely yard under the trees and moonlight.
It was crazy busy and our server left us alone for quite a while... but the food was awesome. They have several individual pizzas that are really meant for two (leftovers!) and a nice selection of yummy salads to go with.
Today we went to a lovely place called Palatte for brunch (which happens to be next door to Cibo). Imagine eating inside an Anthropologie catalog and you can start to imagine what this little eatery is like. They have incredibly yummy food and a lovely outside area to sit and eat. They have an outside bar to get fresh coffee, juice and alcoholic drinks (if you are so inclined). They serve water in old bottles and brought our food very quickly despite how busy it was.
I had "The Egg" - a delicious dish of two poached eggs, bacon and grilled grape tomatoes on top of puff pastry (hells yes). Mullin had "The Dolores" - their take on huevos rancheros. It looked scrumptious but I was so focused on devouring my dish I didn't pay much mind to Mullin's!
On Sundays, a local musician (Matthew Thornton) plays guitar and sings a bunch of lovely songs to set the mood.
It was such a fabulous place - we both said we could spend the day there listening to music, relaxing and taking in the lovely AZ weather.
It was so nice to discover new places with a sweet friend! Thanks for visiting Mullin!! xo!
