Powell's Books is on their list (how could it not be?), along with some other cool-sounding spots I didn't know about:
Check out the latest indie bands at Doug Fir Lounge, connected to the trendy Jupiter Hotel (830 East Burnside Street, 503-231-9663). It is Portland's primo spot to hang out, drink beer (draft Black Butte porter for $4), rub shoulders with the young and pierced and catch emerging groups like the Decembrists. The room is surprisingly modern and woodsy for a dance club, with gold-toned lighting, a fire pit and walls clad in Douglas fir logs. The article didn't mention Amber's new haunt, Tony Starlight's, but it sounds like that's a place to check out, too.

This is great! And the Hotel Deluxe that they mention is where I put my moms up for her visit, funny enough (thank you Hotels.com and your lovely lovely 40% off net rate!). It was a pretty sweet hotel, with all kinds of movie stills and vintage hollywood glamour memorabilia scattered throughout, and good soaps. Not quite a Klimpton hotel, but still very Bexy.
I've not scoped out the Doug Fir yet, but KCRW always mentions shows there and it's a pretty popular spot (open till like 4am, too, another big plus for late night munchies). It's attached to a hotel (Jupiter, I think) and so reminds me of that crazy hotel/bar in SF where 8stops stayed, with the pool and the water theme - crap, I can't remember the name... Dive Bar? No. I feel like the hotel was called Jupiter in SF too, wasn't it? Hm, my aging brain, I totally can't remember. Anyway, if you are still coming up in July, perhaps we can coordinate your trip with a show at the Fir. Fab people play there all the time.
